Labcorp Molecular Oncology Technologist in Town of Shelton, Connecticut

Integrated Oncology, a LabCorp Specialty Testing Group, provides reference anatomic pathology, hematopathology and molecular pathology testing services to hospitals, health systems and independent oncology practices. Integrated Oncology is focused on providing world class solutions to better the lives of patients living with cancer.

The work schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday 11am - 7.30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all high-complexity testing in the Department of Molecular Pathology with minimal supervision.

  • Identifies problems in department laboratory and operating systems and institutes appropriate corrective actions.

  • Analyzes test data and quality control documents, and prepares draft reports for Molecular Pathologist Director/Supervisor to review.

  • Actively participates in the department quality assurance and quality improvement programs, and adheres to policies and procedures developed for the department.

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors or unusual results

  • Provide guidance to technical staff with the analysis and interpretation of final results

  • Perform new test procedures and/or methods and provide feedback based on your findings

  • Assist with training and orientation of new employees as needed

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science

  • At least 3 years of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Demonstrated success in clinical testing technical proficiency and scientific knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific laboratory and/or department functions

  • Ability to exercise judgement to determine methods and procedures on new assignments

  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
