Laboratory Corporation of America Lab Manager in South Bend, Indiana

This position will manage the day to day operations of the following departments: Hematology, Chemistry, Molecular, Flow Cytometry and Microbiology, as well as oversee and provide support to the leadership and employees of these departments.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Hematology/Chemistry, Molecular/Flow Cytometry, and Microbiology laboratories.

  • Oversee and provide support to a team of supervisors and laboratory staff within laboratory functional areas.

  • Monitor the monthly productivity of designated areas of responsibility and report any deviations.

  • Manage the productivity of direct reports using various performance metrics.

  • Work collaboratively with the sales and operations teams to establish strong working relationships with clients.

  • Review staffing models to address inefficiencies and implement changes when necessary.

  • Drive customer and patient satisfaction ensuring timely responses to all matters.

  • Monitor the overtime spending and overall budget on a regular basis.

  • Assist with the leasing of new locations in a designated area.

  • Maintain the required personnel to meet metrics and ensure staff is properly trained.

  • Work cross-functionally within the division to create efficiencies and improve production.

  • Provide recognition, feedback and constructive criticism to the entire team.

  • Address and resolve any customer or client related issues in a timely manner.

  • Report any performance, compliance or staffing related issues.



  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a relevant concentration

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a medical technologist in a clinical laboratory, 5+ preferred

  • 3+ years supervisor experience or leadership experience preferred

  • Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment

  • Strong working knowledge of quality assurance practices and procedures

  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures

  • ASCP Certification required. Specialty Boards a plus (Special Hematology, Special Chemistry)

  • Ability to problem solve and provide solutions under minimal supervision

  • Prior experience with managing costs and the overall budget preferred

  • Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees

  • Excellent computer skills; experience with an LIS

  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position

  • Must possess a valid Drivers License




Monday-Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
