Laboratory Corporation of America FISH/Cytogenetics Technologist in Shelton, Connecticut

Performs all routine and special Cytogenetics procedures, microscopic analysis and maintains quality control. With minimum supervision, Cytogenetic technologist participates in trouble shooting, updating accessioning, current methods and training of junior personnel when cleared by Supervisor.

Technical Responsibilities

  1. Routine Procedures:

  2. Tissue culture procedures

  3. Harvesting

  4. Slide making

  5. GTG banding

  6. Automated imaging and karyotyping procedures

  7. Karyotypes

  8. Reagent preparation-ensures proper reagent preparation and reagent labeling.

  9. Special Procedures:

  10. Special stains

  11. FISH

  12. Trouble Shooting:

  13. Performs and evaluates trouble shooting procedures independently or by instruction.

  14. Documents all corrective actions as needed.

  15. Quality Control:

  16. Documents daily performance criteria of reagents and equipment.

  17. Evaluates acceptability of results with signatory review.

  18. Evaluation of modifications for improvement of current methods.

  19. Assists in the validation of new test methods/instrumentation/reagents.

  20. Participates in training junior personnel.

  4. CG (ASCP) certification preferred but not required.
