As a member of the R&D Diagnostic Development team, the Scientist will conceive, plan and execute assay development and optimization projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology along with experience in next-generation sequencing within a clinical environment. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and collaborative R&D team working with cutting edge technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceives, researches and presents ideas for new assays as well as technical improvements

  • Plans and executes projects, with regular milestones and within establish timelines

  • Utilizes a variety of molecular biology techniques including PCR, digital PCR, quantitative PCR and next-generation sequencing for the purposes of assay development and optimization

  • Designs model systems for proof-of-concept and analytical validation studies

  • Translates protocols into robotic liquid handling workflows amenable to a high-throughput clinical laboratory environment

  • Analyzes data using software such as Excel, JMP, or R

  • Presents data clearly and concisely at departmental and cross-functional team meetings

  • Prepares project summaries, assay protocols and technical reports

  • Assists in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies

  • Participates and presents findings at scientific conferences

  • Publishes scientifically relevant data in peer reviewed journals

  • Participates in the development of patent applications, where applicable

Requirements

Dx (enterprise requirements)

Requires Ph.D. with 0 - 3 year's work experience relevant to position or relevant PostDoc (or equivalent experience). Non-Ph.D. must have demonstrated the ability to ably and independently perform all elements of the job, have exceptional capabilities in own field of expertise and the potential for creativity and external collaboration. This is a Ph.D. entry level position.

Sequenom Laboratories Requirements:

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics or related field plus 0-3 years of experience

  • Must have excellent attention to detail and strong troubleshooting capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex experimental designs

  • Direct hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing technologies and associated library preparation/target capture biochemistries

  • Assay development experience in an industrial or clinical setting is a plus
