Laboratory Corporation of America Technologist Trainee (2nd Shift) - Molecular Genetics in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The work schedule for this position will be Sunday-Thursday from 3:00pm-11:30pm (2nd Shift - 10% differential bonus)
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
Perform PCR based genetic testing in accordance with standard operating procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of various genetic conditions.
Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Utilize a wide array of instrumentation, including Tecan, ABI 3130/3730, ABI 7900, and QIAgen QIAxcel instruments, performing quality control and calibrations, as required.
Accurately enter results of testing. Review reports to ensure accurate test result reporting in preparation for review by a Director / Pathologist.
Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science
Previous clinical lab experience is preferred but not required
Knowledge and understanding of specific laboratory and/or department functions
Ability to exercise judgement to determine methods and procedures on new assignments
Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
