Labcorp Results Certifying Scientist in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

LabCorp is seeking a Results Certifying Scientist to join their team in RTP, NC. This position will focus primarily on supporting COVID-19 PCR testing in the Molecular department of our Clinical Laboratory. The Certifying Scientist is responsible for performing data analysis from each run from the PCR machine, reviewing, and releasing the test runs from the lab. Please note, this position will focus primarily on data analysis, and not involve a lot of wet lab bench work.

The schedule for this position will be: Sunday-Thursday 7:00am-3:30pm


  • Review and release test runs from the lab

  • Operate and troubleshoot instruments and equipment in the laboratory

  • Troubleshoot daily specimen problems, such as old, incorrect specimens, QNS, etc.

  • Participate in preventive maintenance

  • Ensure instruments are not utilized for testing if maintenance is not up to date

  • Perform all routine test and analyses on patient samples and specimens according to established testing procedures plus complex technical assignments utilizing techniques requiring highly specialized skills and interpretation

  • Operate and troubleshoot all instruments and equipment in the laboratory

  • Take proper steps to resolve any identification discrepancies and documents action taken

  • Make sure specimens are tested completely, accurately and within established time frames

  • Participate in proficiency testing as required

  • Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples

The coronavirus is a Biosafety Level 2 disease (BSL2), similar to other blood borne pathogens tested at LabCorp, allowing us to utilize our existing universal safety policies and procedures that protects our employees. All COVID-19 specimens are tested under a hood which protects our employees from being exposed to any vapors, dusts, gases, or fumes from the specimens, as well as any possible splashes to the body. All employees are provided with the proper PPE including face shields and masks, lab coats, and gloves. We strictly enforce the use of PPE at all times, as well as frequently changing and cleaning of all the laboratory equipment. In addition, we have increased the frequency of the cleaning crews within the laboratory to ensure a safe environment for all of our employees.   • B.S./B.A. in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Sciences or related science

  • Minimum 2 years' experience working in a clinical diagnostics lab OR

  • 1 year of experience working in a clinical diagnostics lab AND 2-3 years of research experience on human samples in a Molecular setting

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, such as PCR and QPCR testing required

  • ASCP certification in MB or CLS --OR- eligibility to sit for the exam a plus

  • Knowledge and expertise in lab procedures and data analysis

  • Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
