Laboratory Corporation of America Next Gen Certifying Scientist in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Certifying Scientist to join their Prenatal Genomic Screening team!

The Prenatal Genomic Screening laboratory performs an advanced, non-invasive, next-generation prenatal screening assay that can assess risk for multiple fetal chromosomal aneuploidies, or abnormalities in the number of chromosomes, from a single maternal blood draw.

Testing in this department utilizes a variety of molecular techniques, including DNA isolation / quantification / normalization, library prep, and preparing samples for next-generation sequencing.


  • Perform high complexity data analysis, working with Laboratory Directors and support departments to ensure that patient results are resulted accurately and efficiently.

  • Act as a liaison with other departments / vendors on technical inquiries and assay improvements.

  • Assist in validation / implementation of assay improvements.

  • Assist in SOP creation and revision.

  • Trend assay performance metrics. Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures as well as instrumentation errors.

  • Participate in QC, 5S, and other support tasks for the PGS lab



  • License/Certification/Education: Requires a B.A./B.S. in Biology or related life science

  • Must have 2 years of experience in a Clinical Diagnostic Lab setting or 3 years of research experience with human samples.

Preferred Requirements:

  • ASCP certification in MB or CLS

  • Previous experience with DNA sequencing and / or Bioinformatics

  • Ability to create and revise Microsoft Excel (VBA scripting/macros) and Microsoft Access projects

  • Ability to troubleshoot instruments (for example: Hamilton Star and Tecan Evoware)

  • Ability to write and revise SOP's

  • Ability to plan, validate, and implement process improvements to existing assays
