Labcorp Genomics Technologist - 3rd Shift in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The Integrated Oncology division of Labcorp is seeking a Technologist to join their Molecular Oncology and Genomics team in RTP, NC! In this position, the Technologist will perform assays in the Molecular Oncology and Genomics Department utilizing a variety of scientific techniques, including PCR, fragment analysis, Sanger sequence analysis, and NGS.
The work schedule for this position will be 3rd Shift (Sunday-Wednesday 9pm-7:30am).
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
Perform PCR based molecular oncology testing in accordance with standard operating procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of various types of cancer.
Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Utilize a wide array of instrumentation, including NextSeqs, Tecan, Quantstudio7, and ABI 7900 instruments, performing quality control and calibrations, as required.
Accurately enter results of testing. Review reports to ensure accurate test result reporting in preparation for review by a Director/Pathologist.
Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
Evaluate raw and final data for accuracy; recognize and correct errors or unusual results
Provide guidance to technical staff with the analysis and interpretation of final results
Perform new test procedures and/or methods and provide feedback based on your findings
Assist with training and orientation of new employees as needed
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
Assist with processing of specimens when needed
Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science (or 24 credits in Chemistry/Biology constituting a biological science major) as required by CLIA
At least 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level
ASCP or AMT certification is preferred
NGS or Sanger Sequencing experience or knowledge is preferred
PCR Experience is preferred
Demonstrated success in clinical testing technical proficiency and scientific knowledge
Advanced knowledge and understanding of specific laboratory and/or department functions
Ability to exercise judgment to determine methods and procedures on new assignments
Proficient with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
