Laboratory Corporation of America Cytogenetics Team Lead (2nd Shift) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Cytogenetics Team Leader to join their Cytogenetics team! Assays performed in the Cytogenetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including specimen culturing, slide preparation, and chromosome analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the lab operations of the Constitutional Prenatal Cytogenetics Department, including accurate delivery of patient results, competency assessments, continuing education, and positive morale of laboratory staff. Will attend staff and management meetings and oversee daily lab operations

  • Process cytogenetic specimens from culture initiation to analysis and karyotype.

  • Responsible for laboratory performance criteria including:

  • Delivering patient laboratory results within specified TAT

  • Monitoring and ensuring acceptable repeat and failure rates

  • Monitor daily workflow in the lab, planning / scheduling for adequate assay coverage, and troubleshooting / escalating problems, as necessary

  • Train and mentor laboratory testing staff

  • Assist with the hiring of qualified, enthusiastic employees

  • Work closely and cooperatively with the Lab Supervisor and other departments

  • Oversee clinical trials performed in the department, including direct overview of training and testing protocols for clinical trials

Requirements

  • B.A./B.S. in Cytogenetics, Biology, or relatable life science to include completion of 16 credit hours of Biology, 16 credit hours of Chemistry, and 3 credit hours of Math

  • ASCP certification in Cytogenetics is required

  • 7 years of experience in a Cytogenetic laboratory required

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience at the Technologist level, within a Cytogenetic lab required

  • 2 years of experience in a leadership capacity is highly preferred, but not required
