Labcorp BioChemistry Technologist Trainee/Technologist - 2nd Shift - WILL TRAIN! in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Technologist Trainee to join their BioChemical Genetics team in RTP, NC! The Biochemical Genetics laboratory performs a wide array of testing that falls into two different categories: maternal serum screening and diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism.

Maternal serum screening is available to all pregnant women and testing is performed to identify pregnancies that are at a higher than usual risk for certain birth defects (including open spina bifida, Down syndrome, and Trisomy 18). Tests for inborn errors of metabolism are enzyme activity tests that are typically performed on blood, urine, or CSF from children, and sometimes adults, who have symptoms for a variety of diseases.

Assays performed in the BioChemical Genetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including fluorometry, spectrophotometry, and gel electrophoresis.

The schedule for this position will be Tuesday-Saturday 3pm-11:30pm.

Participate in LabCorp's in-house training program for the field of molecular genetics. Receive in depth training and preparation for the ASCP Molecular Biology certification. Training program is a two year commitment, and requires signing a training reimbursement agreement.


  • Performing Biochemical Genetics testing including Maternal serum screening, Tay Sachs leukocyte and leukocyte and dried blood spot prep

  • Monitoring assay pending lists * Performing QA/QC duties in the lab and routine PM for lab equipment

  • Patient result data entry and preparing test data from CET testing for Technical DirectorsDetermine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.

  • Perform a variety of manual and automated DNA/RNA isolations in preparation of PCR-based molecular testing for a variety of genetic conditions, including cancer.

  • Utilize a wide array of instrumentation, including Tecan and Chemagen instruments, performing quality control and calibrations, as required.

  • Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems.


  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science (or 24 credits in Chemistry/Biology constituting a biological science major) as required by CLIA

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level

  • Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
