Laboratory Corporation of America Biochemical Genetics Technologist (1st shift) in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a BioChemical Technologist to join their BioChemical Genetics team! The Biochemical Genetics laboratory at CMBP performs a wide array of testing that falls into two different categories: maternal serum screening and diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism.
Maternal serum screening is available to all pregnant women and testing is performed to identify pregnancies that are at a higher than usual risk for certain birth defects (including open spina bifida, Down syndrome, and Trisomy 18). Tests for inborn errors of metabolism are enzyme activity tests that are typically performed on blood, urine, or CSF from children, and sometimes adults, who have symptoms for a variety of diseases.
Assays performed in the BioChemical Genetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including fluorometry, spectrophotometry, and gel electrophoresis.
This position will have first shift hours from 8:00AM -- 4:30PM, Tuesday -- Saturday.
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
Perform maternal serum screening testing, as well as testing for inborn errors of metabolism, in accordance with standard operating procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions.
Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Utilize a wide array of instrumentation, including Beckman DXI, Tecan, and plate reader instruments, performing quality control and calibrations, as required.
Accurately enter results of testing. Review reports to ensure accurate test result reporting in preparation for review by a Director / Pathologist.
Recognize problems and initiate troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems.

B.A./B.S. in Biology or relatable life science to include completion of 16 credit hours of Biology, 16 credit hours of Chemistry, and 3 credit hours of math
1 year of clinical OR research lab experience preferred, but not required
