Laboratory Corporation of America Laboratory Supervisor (Chemistry) in Raritan, New Jersey

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the chemistry department, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of employees

  • Resolve client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with Medical Director, Lab Manager, QA, discipline directors, as well as corporate operations

  • Investigate technical issues, problems with quality control, calibration verifications, proficiency testing and able to work with the Chemistry QA staff, elevating issues to equipment vendors and appropriate leadership.

  • Oversee the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule to ensure adequate coverage, proper use of overtime and the handling of specific projects and adjust as needed

  • Ensure all policies and procedures are accurate and make updates as needed

  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, and applicable laws and regulations (CAP, CLIA, State, I.S.O.15189, etc) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing and represents the department during audits and accreditation surveys

  • Ensure personnel competency by training, mentorship, conducting performance reviews and addressing issues as necessary

  • Conduct departmental meetings and assures appropriate departmental communication.

  • Communicate in a clear, concise and credible manner to secure the understanding of the established vision and strategies through positive interaction with employees, clients, sales, corporate operations, management and other divisional staff

  • Assist with installation of equipment and methods according to scheduled timelines

  • Maintain inventory by ordering supplies in a manner that will consistently provide adequate materials, minimize outdated items and result in cost effective inventory levels

  • Must have working knowledge of the instrumentation and methods used within the section and may from time to time, be required to perform bench duties as needed.

  • Must be able to develop and participate in a harmonious teamwork with the Core Lab Manager and intradepartmental supervisors as well as with the management personnel of the Raritan Laboratory


  • B.S/B.A. degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field

  • Must meet CLIA and NY requirements of a technical supervisor

  • ASCP Certification preferred

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the field, preferably in a high volume clinical laboratory

  • Exceptional problem solving skills with expertise in chemistry and quality control systems

  • Experience with Roche platforms (c701, c502, e411, e602, e801) and Data Innovation middleware a plus

  • Experience interacting with auditors during regulatory inspections required

  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
