The Forensic Processor IV / Specimen Processing Specialist works in a fast paced, production type environment performing a vital component of medical laboratory science. Receive on the job training for the pre-analytical processing of medical samples.
Receive specimens for testing; evaluate specimens and test orders; accession and aliquot specimens, organize work to maintain efficiency and acceptable turn-around-time; recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately.
Complete all documents accurately and neatly; monitor chain of custody, and custody and control forms for completeness and acceptability.
Processes client samples, quality control samples, confirmation and proficiency samples. Adheres to the SOP.
Accurately identify errors or problem samples. Perform higher level review of specimens with discrepancies and/or fatal errors.
Communicate with positive certifiers/problem resolution/recoverable team(s) to ensure accuracy of test request and client information, maintain logs/records, proficient with numbers, research information, use computerized databases, email, written and verbal communication.
Maintain a full operational understanding of chain of custody processes within the processing department.
Strong independent judgment to decide how to process a wide variety of samples in accordance with applicable requirements, standards, and regulations.
Adhere to company and department policies, procedures, and follow all SOPs
Maintain a full operational understanding of departmental work flow.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent education and experience.
2 years of experience in health care, office, customer service, administrative or production type environment.
Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Able to work in a fast paced production environment to meet established turnaround times.
Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
Must be able to distinguish colors including shades of colors.
Able to work independently under general supervision.
Basic computer and typing skills; MS Office programs.
Preferred Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
1 year of processing experience
Thursday - Sunday 6 am - 4:30 pm
