Laboratory Corporation of America Systems Operations Manager in Hazard, Kentucky

Labcop is seeking a Systems Operations Manager for the Eastern Kentucky/West Virginia region.

The System Operations Manager needs to have a broad knowledge of clinical medicine and where the laboratory fits in the healthcare system. The Director needs to have an understanding of:

  • Basic Medical and Clinical Laboratory Sciences

  • Laboratory Operations

  • Point of Care Testing

  • Pathology disciplines

  • Reference Testing

  • Acute Care

  • Physician Office workflow and needs

  • Quality Management Systems

  • Informatics

  • Data analysis

  • Business Management, budget, operating expenses and capital equipment

The System Operations Manager needs to have experience with:

  • Active participation in hospital committees

  • Active collaboration with other departments in patient care , service levels and performance improvement activities

  • Initiating improved methods of service and direct their implementation

  • Fiscal operation of the laboratory

  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in complex situations

  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, attentive to detail and maintain a positive attitude

  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work

  • Ability to travel a minimum of 25-30%

  • Use scientific rules and methods to solve problems.

  • Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.



  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a relevant concentration

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Manager in a Hospital Setting

  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures

  • Prior experience with managing costs and the overall budget preferred

  • Excellent computer skills; experience with an LIS

  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal

  • Must possess a valid Drivers License




Monday-Friday: 8:00am-5:00pm
