Labcorp Director Corporate Development, New Ventures & Strategic Alliances, BioPharma Related Opportunities in Durham, North Carolina

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Development, New Ventures & Strategic Alliances, the Director will work closely with internal and external senior leaders to successfully negotiate, execute, and manage collaborations with BioPharma partners primarily relating to their global companion diagnostic and commercial testing needs.

This role is a key contributor to the Corporate Development, New Ventures & Strategic Alliances team that pursues strategic partnerships and equity investments to enable and support the diagnostic and drug development business units with their strategic and growth objectives through the commercialization of innovative technology.

The team is tasked to identify unmet needs, assess opportunities, and execute agreements across all therapeutic areas with a focus on:

  • Launching novel diagnostic tests, platforms, and services

  • New biomarker discovery and companion diagnostic development

  • Optimizing end-to-end drug development processes

  • Developing mobile and digital health offerings

  • Enabling consumer convenience and engagement

  • Integrating health IT and bioinformatics

This role is responsible for coordinating the transactions associated with BioPharma companies, assessment of potential partnering commercialization and post-marketing opportunities, developing financial and benchmark analyses, leading due diligence and negotiations, and effectively engaging key internal and external stakeholders. This person will generate, negotiate, and execute on BioPharma-related opportunities globally by taking a role in all deal aspects both internally and externally. This position requires strategic thinking, strong business acumen, communication and influencing skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ideal candidate will be strategically minded, team oriented, and analytically excellent.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead licensing and commercial partnership deals relating to BioPharma working closely with internal research & development, commercial, and financial experts to conduct evaluation, due diligence, and initial plans for proposed transactions. This includes leading/supporting the overall product or service evaluation process, clinical/scientific assessments, evaluation of the commercial opportunity, analysis of the competitive landscape, and financial modeling

  • Establishes, oversees, and manages ongoing partnering arrangements to ensure successful collaboration, initiation, and execution of the alliance

  • Facilitate due diligence efforts and own data collection activities and partners with cross-functional team members to ensure timely and accurate analysis delivery

  • Build and maintain valuation, statistical and financial models that incorporate industry standard information sources, valuation methods, and statistically relevant data

  • Design partnership roadmaps, conduct initial outreach to prospective companies, and advocate to senior leadership for specific deals in support of portfolio and business team priorities

  • Drive internal decision-making process with the business owners and corporate development leaders/managers

  • Develop and maintain strong industry and competitive knowledge

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in scientific discipline. MBA and/or MS/PhD preferred

  • 7-10 years of work experience in a related field. Life Science, Pharma/ Biotech, or Diagnostic companies preferred.

  • Strong track record of success in positions of increasing responsibility; minimum of five years of broad-based business experience; relevant experience includes, but is not limited to corporate or business development/planning, corporate strategy, or investment banking

  • Highly independent, strategic thinker with a mix of deep financial acumen, broad-based business experience and a track record of distinctive leadership in a wide range of team settings

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills are required to present to and manage internal and external stakeholders

  • Robust understanding of the full drug development process, life-cycle management and commercialization of therapeutics

  • Quick learner adept at self-management and handling many simultaneous projects with deadlines

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
