LabCorp is seeking a Data Center Technician for it's Durham, NC location. This position installs, and maintains IT hardware, including servers, storage area network systems, network equipment. Provides Voice/Data and Fiber cabling for all critical and non-critical infrastructures. Ensures availability and capacity targets are achieved and maintained for data centers and critical infrastructure for all facilities. Provides backup to the tape librarian, processing both incoming and outgoing tapes using Iron Mountains SecureSync application.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Information Technology ticket tracking systems

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing internal customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Knowledge of Fluke equipment (or similar) to test cables and cross connects

  • Knowledge of Industry standards along with best practices in regards to telecommunications connectivity, network, and fiber.

  • Knowledge of asset management systems and bar coding

  • Knowledge of Data Center Receiving aspects to include: receiving of equipment, asset tagging and organizing.

  • Knowledge of PC skills, Office Suite of Tools, (including Visio)

  • Knowledge of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools and applications.

  • Understands network terminology to accomplish the connecting, patching and terminating cable to servers, switches and peripheral devices.

  • Understands power provisioning, Power Distribution Units and Environmental monitoring standards and requirements.

Requirements

License/Certification/Education: Normally requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, but prefer an Associate's Degree w/3-5 years of experience.

ABILITIES:

  • Multi Task - The ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and change priorities on short notice

  • Ability to rack and install servers and Data Center/Control Center hardware

  • Ability to work with, Cat 6, Cat 6e, fiber terminations and cabling, and properly route and dress cables.

  • Ability to read and operate test equipment

  • Ability to read and work from assembly drawings, diagrams, schematics, and written instructions.

  • Understand and maintain structured cabling and diverse cable routing

  • Ability to work with a highly motivated and technical team

Physical Demands:

Speech clarity, utilization of fingers and hands, standing-remaining on one's feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding, grasping and lifting up to SO pounds. Ability to work from a ladder to work on overhead cabling.

Vision Requirements:

Far acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more; near acuity-ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less; depth perception-ability to judge distance and space relationships; color vision-ability to distinguish and identify different colors.

Non-Technical Requirements:

  • Communicates and works well with others

  • Must be able to be called when off-shift as needed

  • Must be able to work alternate shifts as needed

  • Some travel may be required - (own transportation)
