Laboratory Corporation of America Laboratory Manager - Molecular/PCR in Dublin, Ohio
LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager to join our team in Dublin, OH. In this position, you will work in a fast paced, customer focused, and challenging environment, and will be a part of our overall mission at LabCorp: "Improving Health, Improving Lives" as we combat the COVID-19 pandemic. LabCorp was the first national laboratory to launch molecular testing for the virus that causes COVID-19 and we have performed over 13 million PCR tests to date.
This position will focus primarily on managing the COVID-19 PCR testing in the Molecular department of our Clinical Laboratory, where the Technologists perform both automated and manual testing with the overall goal of providing results that will be used for the diagnosis and management of COVID-19. Ultimately, these test results will be studied to better understand the virus in hopes of developing better treatments, and a future vaccine.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operational activities of the Molecular Diagnostics Lab; both the technical and non-technical operations
Effectively manage the staffing of the department and monitor the production schedule to ensure adequate coverage and proper use of overtime; adjust as needed
Effectively manage change, facilitate innovation and foster teambuilding to provide the highest quality and most cost effective laboratory product possible.
Ensure the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory provides market leading service levels, meeting the needs of our clients and corporate service metrics established for TAT
Resolves client inquiries and operational issues in a timely manner by consulting with the Medical Director, Technical Director, QA, other laboratory managers, discipline directors, laboratory directors or corporate operations.
Ensures laboratory is compliant with corporate, state and federal regulatory requirements (CAP, CLIA, State, I.S.O.15189, etc) related to personnel safety and quality of laboratory testing as well as professional conduct in assigned areas
Assist with developing and implementing of laboratory procedures as well as installation of equipment and methods according to scheduled timelines
Ensures effective communication with Leadership, Clients, Sales, Corporate Operations, as well as direct reports and all departmental staff
Conduct departmental meetings and ensures appropriate departmental communication
Investigate deviations from established procedures to ensure effective corrective action
Ensure personnel competency and address performance related issues as necessary
Continuous education of technical knowledge in the Molecular Diagnostics laboratory testing
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biology, or Medical Technology
Minimum 8 years of experience as a medical technologist in a clinical laboratory
Prior supervisor experience managing several direct reports
ASCP Certification or other specialty board a plus
Previous experience with Hologic Tigris DTS or Panther platforms and Roche Cobas 4800/6800/8800 platform is preferred
Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
Strong knowledge of molecular biology fundamentals; experience with an LIS
High level of proficiency with computers and robotics
Strong working knowledge of quality assurance practices and procedures
Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
Proven ability to problem solve/troubleshoot and provide solutions under minimal supervision
Proven success in training and developing both technical and non-technical employees
Must meet CLIA and NY requirements of a technical supervisor
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
Highly motivated and energetic with the ability to work effectively in a high test volume setting
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
