Requires a Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum of 2 years' relevant experience in R & D (or equivalent experience); or Masters of Science degree.
Interest in programming and repairs of laboratory automation equipment, such as PerkinElmer, Tecan, or Hamilton robotic platforms is required, experience is highly preferred.
Previous research experience in molecular techniques such as DNA isolation, PCR, probe/bait capture assays, and Next Generation Sequencing required.
Familiarity with validation and implementation in a CAP/CLIA Laboratory.
Experience with assay design and assay performance optimization.
The Research and Development Department has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate. This position will be part of the R&D DNA Identification team that partakes in the development and optimization of DNA testing procedures for HLA testing, cell line authentication, paternity testing, as well as other DNA, RNA, and antibody based assays. The position will be centered around developing robotic automation programs for operational implementation of new assays, as well as development of Next Generation Sequencing tests for PacBio and Illumina platforms. Other methods include, but are not limited to, Sanger sequencing, qPCR, Enzyme Immunoassay, STR, bioinformatics, and probe capture.
Conduct research on projects with limited oversight through the development process and transfer optimized and developed products to operations.
Write standard operating procedures and validations.
Work closely with R&D director, and other scientific staff in a team environment.
Analyze and critique results, note deviations and design relevant experiments.
Read primary scientific literature to help develop and troubleshoot experiments.
Give presentations to colleagues.
Generate reports sufficient for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
Coach and assist laboratory staff on newly developed procedures.
