The Special Chemistry Department at the Center for Esoteric Testing in Burlington, NC is composed of four separate sections: Electrophoresis , Esoteric and Rare Testing (ERT), Chromatography, and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Overall, there are over 80 different procedures with varying methodologies performed in Special Chemistry. A total of over 2.9 M tests are performed by this department each year.
This is a 2nd shift schedule and qualifies for a shift differential incentive!
Performance of high complexity tests/assays according to established testing procedures.
This position will be required to crosstrain within all sections (as applicable to testing performed on the 2nd shift) >
Performs proficiency testing and documentation for all tests performed in accordance with CLIA, state and accreditation standards.
Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and 1- corrects the problem or 2- immediately notifies the Laboratory/Technical Supervisor, Laboratory Manager and/or Technical Director.
Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Coordinates work of other departmental staff as required.
Acts as subject matter expert in areas of testing and support problem investigation and resolution as needed.
Assists supervisors/manager in performing various assigned responsibilities completely and accurately and within established timeframes.
Assists supervisors/manager in the performance of the following duties: training staff, scheduling staff for work, reviewing completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance, troubleshooting problems as they arise, making work-flow recommendations to supervisor.
Assists supervisor in monitoring employee performance and ensures quality expectations, (e.g. monitors employee break times, quantity and quality of work) and helps address performance issues with employees.
Clearly communicates all concerns/issues related to assigned area to Supervisor/assigned to staff and accurately completed within established time frames.
Ensures a professional work environment is maintained.
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science
Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience in clinical diagnostics testing as a technologist
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
